Pi-hole is a fantastic product for your home network and allows ad blocking at the network level. My install Pi-hole article will walk you through every thing you will need to do to install Pi-hole from scratch using a low power Raspberry Pi! While there are many ways to install Pi-hole and many different operating systems and hardware you can use, for this article we are going to be using the following to install Pi-hole on your network.
I assume you are starting from scratch so if you have any of the below you can skip purchasing them, obviously. Note that links are affiliate. Take your microSD card and put it into your microSD card reader then plug it into your computer.Homem elastico quarteto fantastico
We will be using Disk Management to format and name your microSD card. If there are no other partitions on it you can skip this step and move on to installing with Etcher as Etcher will format your card as well. Using Disk Management will make sure that you only have one partition for your Raspbian Lite install. Once open, find your microSD card and delete any partitions associated with it.
You should end up with your microSD card with nothing by unallocated space like below:. Now we need to create a new Volume so right click the area that says Unallocated and then select New Simple Volume:. Follow the new window steps to create your volume. You do not need to change anything, other than the name of the volume should you choose to. In my example, we are going to use the name RaspLite. Etcher is simple, you simply need to select the image, which you downloaded earlier and then select your microSD card and then hit Flash!
The Flash will take a few minutes, depending on your setup. We have one more step to do before we install the microSD card into your Raspberry Pi. Doing this is easy. In your Windows Explorer simply open up your microSD drive and then create a new file simply called ssh.
Chromecast not working? Here’s how to fix it!
No file name extension is needed. This gist was essentially created out of my own rant about Netflix being hostile to IPv6 tunnel services since June You are welcome to read my opinion on the matter, this is the more technical side to the issue and how to combat it within your own network.
Since I wrote this, various GitHub users have contributed their thoughts and ideas which has been incorporated into this gist. Thank you to everyone who have contributed their own methods and implementations.
Netflix now treats IPv6 tunnel brokers such as Hurricane Electric as proxy servers. A while ago it became apparent to users and Netflix that somewhat by accident, IPv6 tunnel users were being served content outside of their geolocation because of the way Netflix was identifying the tunnel services and their geographical origin.Subdividing land
The problem was further compounded by certain opportunstic indiviuals deciding to create a business model out of providing the Netflix US and others content library via networks like Hurricane Electric and ruined it for everyone. Netflix and friends got all stressy about it and now all IPv6 tunnel users are considered to be naughty proxy pirates.
Also because big media is stuck in the s, they think this block is actually effective, when in fact it just inconveniences most legitimate users, that simply want IPv6 connectivity, because their ISP is stuck in In the early days this article didn't mention anything about IPv6, but now it pretty much spells out if you use a tunnel service for IPv6 you are on your own and won't get any support from Netflix about it, but there is a potential workaround.
To implement such a workaround you'll need to have a DNS setup that you can fully control. You'll need to have the ability to implement one of the following implementations:. This gist focuses on using dnsmasq commonly found in embedded products i. These are the key Netflix domains that need to be handled to prevent IPv6 being used and avoiding a 6in4 tunnel or similar.
Some of these domains may not have AAAA records currently, but its possible this might change in the future, so they are covered off to be future proofed. The only downside to this method is you have to generate a matching server and address line for each domain, otherwise you will unwillingly remove A record responses.
Your dnsmasq. If you have a bulk load of domains you could write a script to output the server and address lines to a file with the domain being a variable in a loop, fed by a list or another source. If you are already running dnsmasq, this is the most simpliest method, without having to worry about additional configurations or services. This would prevent netflix. In this scenario, there will be another DNS resolver running somewhere in the network.
The DNS resolver could be anything or running anywhere. I will use bind for the resolver. I chose bind as it has a specific parameter filter-aaaa-on-v4. The example below is a very minimal configuration for bind. It has the advantage of being domain agnostic, meaning it will strip any AAAA records from any domain passed to it. This is useful if other services other than Netflix start blocking IPv6 tunnels in a similar fashion or simply want to force IPv4 for other services for whatever reason.
You can use any forwarders you like, the example below uses OpenDNS. If you are running this on an external facing IP address, you should be careful and make sure you only allow recursion on specific requests and ACL accordingly.
Not doing so will make you an open DNS resolver, it won't take long for someone to start abusing your server and generating a high rate of traffic.Itel it5631 ?????
The --enable-filter-aaaa option must be enabled at compile time in order for this config to work, see this page for more information:.
Where this resolver runs is entirely up to you. Once everything is setup, you can query any of the following Netflix domains listed above against a public DNS resolver and compare the output to a query made to the additional DNS resolver you've setup. Future Netflix connections should now only use IPv4. If you don't get the expected output this can be due to DNS caching and depending on your setup you might have to wait a bit of time for the correct DNS lookup information to be returned.
If you get issues like timeouts, check to make sure the DNS server is actually running and your firewall is permitting the DNS traffic, especially if using a non-standard port for DNS traffic. While this method can work, the problem with it is that it is static and not as future proof as DNS related options. The problem is Netflix uses various content delivery networks and obtaining the ranges for them all is difficult.Just added this to my Pihole.

Most users have a smooth and trouble free experience with the Google Chromecast, but when it misbehaves the experience quickly goes from flawless to nearly unusable. Read on as we highlight the simply tweaks and fixes you can apply to get an underperforming Chromecast zipping along again.
We loved it when we reviewed it back inand we still love it. That said, the user experience of the Chromecast usually falls into two distinct categories: unbelievably easy to setup and use or very frustrating. Many users hijack the USB service port on their television as a very convenient way to provide power. While most of us have extra cellphone chargers laying around, if you want a brand new one you can always pick up a highly rated charger like this Samsung OEM travel charger.
To resolve your issue you can perform a soft or hard reset although if it is cycling quickly a soft reset is generally out of the question.
The short of it is this: hold the physical button on your Chromecast near the power port for 25 seconds until the power light blinks. If you want more information about the ins and outs of soft and hard resets, check out our guide here.
You can find the return instructions here.
Less serious than the outright failures outlined in the previous section, stuttering video, excessive buffering, or temporary blackouts in the video stream are still annoying and greatly reduce your viewing enjoyment. In the lower lefthand corner a small amount of rotating text is displayed. Wait for your Wi-Fi network name to appear and then check the signal strength indicator beside it. The indicator uses the common 4-bars representation to display signal strength.
To decide which approach is most appropriate, take another Wi-Fi enabled device like a phone, tablet, or laptop over by your HDTV and check the signal strength. Do I Need It? The easiest way to that is to use the small HDMI extender included with the Chromecast which you should be using anyway because it protects your Chromecast from shearing damage if anyone or thing puts pressure on the connection point.
Full featured extenders like the EX that include an ethernet port for LAN-to-Wi-Fi extension are especially useful if you have an ethernet drop near your entertainment center as you can create a strong and very local Wi-Fi access point just for your Chromecast and other media center devices.
If you have a strong Wi-Fi signal per the Chromecast and your proximity-to-HDTV test and, importantly, you know you have a speedy enough broadband connection to deliver the content you want to watch, the most likely culprit is network congestion. This congestion can take two distinct forms that require two distinct solutions. The first kind of congestion is the kind of congestion you inflict upon yourself: heavy local traffic. If you have a lot of connected devices in your home chewing up bandwidth in their various ways people gaming, downloading updates, file sharing, etc.
This is where Quality of Server QoS rules come into place. QoS rules allow you to prioritize certain types of traffic over other types of traffic to provide a better user experience.Published by Harish Kumar on December 8, December 8, It is designed for use on embedded devices with network capability, such as the Raspberry Pi, but it can be used on other machines running Linux and cloud implementations.

Can add items to the whitelist, but they are not actually added. Its the same for the blacklist. Updated to the last version and reinstalled. Manipulating the lists via command line works. Add and delete via the web interface has no effect. I'll try to add more informations.
OK, there have been some known issues on the web interface whitelists in the past. If it still fails, and you're using chrome, press F12 to open the developer menu and then take a look at the network tab to see if there are any errors shown.
Have you changed distros? Having the same on Ubuntu It was working with webinterface v1. Same issue on my end.
I see a lot of different "whitelisting" issue threads around here. I can add a domain to the whitelist from the webinterface but Pihole just ignores it, still blocking! Very weird Quoting ookangzheng from closed duplicate issue I use on Centos6 I add pihole -w -f tieba. OK, ookangzheng None of those are formatted as hosts files, and are adding a lot of invalid entries into your gravity.
I've loaded your adlists. What I'm saying though is that I don't think those lists are going to add anything of value to your experience. Secondly, tieba. It is not in any of the default lists, though it does appear as a rule in this list that you added resulting in some invalid host entries in gravity. Now, even if I do whitelist tieba. I think you may have an additional problem somewhere along the line, because I can access tieba. Pinging it gives the following results:.

You might need to flush the DNS cache if you visited the site, then blacklisted and finally revisited the site.

Now setting up a pixel-server is another matter, but I'll try to take a look at just blocking the domain completely. It's looking like the issue may not be https.
I set up a blacklist. Ran gravity. It's what I kind of expected However note that amazon. Lol, I knew eventually my B. Yeah, each subdomain would also need to be blocked.
